This is a great story Marie! I have only sold a few things on Kijiji but every person has a story. You could write a book! Thanks for sharing this heartwarming tale!

Indeed very interesting. I can only confirm what you are saying. In a related context, I want to add share something here: I had once, about a year ago send a Kijiji link to my wife's family in Russia and it turned out to become a favourite "gateway" for the extended family to do research about Canada for them. I would always hear that "we saw that on Kijiji this or that costs about this much" or "there seem to be many apartments vacant in this neighbourhood" etc etc
While not exactly the same as you described, but another facet of what Kijiji can do for you or for people. Kijiji, so much more than a selling/buying platform!
Thanks Marie, great article!

Very interesting vignettes with an unusual common thread. They speak to the cultural diversity you find today, and how even selling things on Kijiji can lead to a cross cultural learning experience. Thanks for sharing Marie and Happy Holidays!

Dear Marie Gervais:

It's my personal opinion there is no such thing as poor employees, but rather poor management.

Some time ago I was in charge of a group of 4 persons under the area of Supply Chain Network.

The main complaint to that group from other departments, was the extraordinary number of errors made by them in the selection of appropriate Incoterms for each purchase order.

The feedback from other supervisors was that these people did not have enough care to select the appropriate option.

This opinion was based upon this team had more than 3 years of experience, so that no one would have thought to think that the situation was caused by lack of knowledge.

My first action to remedy this situation was preparing a presentation to an audience that knew absolutely nothing about our operations in general and then emphasizing the functions of that department. That same week, I invited these employees to a team meeting and I made this presentation.

To my surprise I found the following during this presentation:

1. All these persons thought that "Incoterms" was an internal concept of the company and not a standard used in logistics;

2. Not know how their actions affected the operations (Supply Chain).

3. They were not able to apply their acquired knowledge in various trainings to any new challenge they received (Legal Entity, etc).

I could not understand at that moment how this situation was possible. So I proceeded to design and organize a training focused on the reason for their work, etc..

As a result, they became one of the best teams of the company, capable of handling high volumes of orders.
